New feature. Reruns. If not popular still by demand. :)
Latitudinal. Thermopylae. Antipodes. Chacalaca. Persnickety. Fun to say.
But not as much fun as serendipity. It’s just fun. You know what it means. Or you’re like my grandson. He doesn’t know he knows but he knows: “Mom, I got things for Christmas I didn’t even know I wanted.” :)
I’m getting to birds.
We’ve had a lot of these this year.
Teasing me. High. Fast. Skittish. I didn't really hope for a photograph. They were just nice to see.I would point out flocks of them flying high--tree to tree--in their lilting, charming way and say, “There they go.” :)
Then one morning I spent a long time looking for a wading bird at the lagoon. No luck. Discouraged I hiked back to my little pickup on a busy street. My birding was over for the day. I thought. But next to my truck was a little tree. In it was a whole flock. Beautiful.
I knew I wanted them. :)
If you bird, you know what I mean. Serendipity. You tramp around all day without finding a thing. Nada. Struck out. You don’t expect it. Imagine you’ll see it. Maybe ever. But you find it. Some beautiful surprise. And it is just the thing you weren’t looking for.
It happens all the time. :)
Distinguishing Marks: Sleek. Black Mask. Crest. Yellow tip on tail. Mature males have feathers that look like red wax droplets on their wingtips.Overall impression: light and beautiful.
What the heck is it? Hover to find out.
Boring Fact: Irruptions are fairly common for this species. That's a sort of irregular migration further south than normal. Scientists think they're after your pyracantha berries.
