If you’re a birder you probably know what diurnal means. If not you probably don’t care. It’s not the kind of word you would throw around at cocktail parties. It means “during the day.”
It’s a big word used (with nocturnal and crepuscular) by birders or other biology nerds to describe when animals or plants are active.
Most birds are diurnal. But some diurnal birds like this yellow warbler migrate at night.
Most mammals on the other hand are nocturnal.
Not humans of course. We are diurnal.
Except for teenagers. :)
