Tripping through the store today to buy some candy I noticed just how much Halloween stuff there was. Things have changed since I was a kid. But of course I want to get in step with what has apparently become an important national holiday. And excuse to get drunk. Really drunk. But I don’t do drunk for Halloween.
Instead I'll be kick off this year's on-line celebration with Bird-Call’s top 10 .
1) Crows, Ravens and Blackbirds:
Omens of evil. But they also are messengers who bring good news. Go figure.
(Follow link for more on raven omens.)
2) Hawks:
A hawk in a dream means a message of good fortune is coming. Perhaps from a crow.
3) Owls:
Very bad omen. Especially if it flies around your house three times. In that case someone dies. It’s that simple. You’re cooked.
4) Vultures:
Also a bad omen. They warn of death. But too late.
5) A bird in the house:
Depends. But it can be a bad omen. At the very least it means washing the couch cover.
6) When a bird flies in the window:
You may encounter an obstacle in your life soon. Double that if the window was closed.
7) Find a feather from a black bird:
This can mean many things. Warning. Death. Wisdom. But usually it’s just molting.
8) Find a dead bird:
Like the death card in Tarot. Or West Nile Virus.
If a swallow builds its mud nest in your eaves it forecasts good fortune. And later a good power wash.
10) A bird flying down the chimney:
Someone will die. Usually the bird.
